The Search for the Chief
last recognised Chief of the Maxwells, William Maxwell of Carruchan, died
in 1863 and the family has been waiting since then for the heir-male of
this proud and ancient family to step forward to claim the Chiefship.
The problem facing this heir apparent is that he probably has no idea
that he is the heir to the Chiefdom of Maxwell. These pages are designed
to raise awareness and hopefully stimulate interest in solving the problem.
The Maxwells have a Chief, it is up to us to find and recognise the heir-male
as head of our proud and noble heritage.
