I am looking for family information on my great-grandfather who traveled from Dumfriesshire, Scotland to the U.S. in 1850.  He worked as a weaver in New Jersey near Philadelphia; joined the 6th N.J. infantry at the start of the Civil war.  He married Martha Stewart in Philadelphia in 1858; she was from Ireland. They are buried in Secretary, MD. He was born in 1832 in Scotland.  I have heard from my mother that he may have traveled with a sister and that she moved to Canada. Any ideas on searches or possible family ties is most welcomed.
