I am sorry to have to report that there were only 5 earls of Nithsdale, the last one died in Rome in 1744. His only son was deprived of the title but was styled 'Lord Maxwell' until his death in 1777. He had two daughters only one of whom reached maturity. She married Mr Constable of Everingham and is the ancestor of all the Constable-Maxwells alive today. |
