In correspondence with Ms. Susanna Kerr of the Scottish Portrait Gallery last year, she informed me of the following items in their care: Sir John Maxwell 1512-1583 4th Baron Herries  SP I 36.1 (This a apparently just a copy of his Coat of Arms, unfortunately not a portrait.) Lady Anne Maxwell Lady Bellew daur of Wm Earl of Nithsdale 1735 SPIII 93.1 Lady Catherine Steart Maxwell 1705-65 wife of Wm Maxwell Earl of Nithsdale SPIV 155.1 Edward Maxwell Earl of Nithsdale d 1568  SP 1  37.1 Wm Maxwell 5th Earl of Nithsdale 1676-1744  SPIII 92.1 Ditto 6th Earl SPIV 151.1 Rev John Herries d 1781 EPIV 359.1 She also mentioned other portraits of the Maxwells that are in private collections, which can be researched in their Print Room. Does anyone know of any other early Maxwell or Herries portraits? Sam
