My g g g grandparents were John Porter and Mary Maxwell. Married in Syracuse NY in 1836 according to info from LDS. NY State did not yet register marriages at that time. Census records state John was born in NY State in 1806 but we have nothing beyond that. They appear in the Michigan Census in 1845 and John died in 1859 in Michigan at approx. 55 years of age if census is correct. Fulton is just under 30 miles from Syracuse. If this ties in at all with your line, please contact me ASAP. We have been looking for any information on them for years!
