Title: James Maxwell of St. Stephen, New Brunswick
Posted by: Scott Maxwell
Date: 26 September 2001

I'm new at this game, and thought I'd take a blind stab here.  I know, through my grandmother, that the first Maxwell in the New World in my line was the gentleman in the message title.  Apparently, he was one of the founding fathers of the town of St. Stephen, in New Brunswick, across the way from Calais, Maine.  I've found from the internet that he married a woman named Elizabeth "Betsy" Hill and died about 1847 or so.  I am descended from one of his sons named John, though I'm not sure which one.  According to grandma, James emigrated to the US from Ireland with his sister and his widowed mother, neither of whose names I know.  His father apparently died or was killed in Ireland while the family was planning their move to America.  I know a scant few other details, but I was hoping there was a slim chance that someone on here might be descended from the same man, and be able to help me fill in some blanks on my tree.  Between James and my late grandfather, Maynard Warren Maxwell (d. 1977, formerly a math teacher at the prestigious Belmont Hill School in Mass.), there's about 3 or 4 generations whose names I don't know.  Anyhow...any help would be appreicated!  Thanks in advance!
