William John Maxwell was born 1835, the son of a Mr. & Mrs. John Maxwell from Edinburgh, Scotland. He came out to New Zealand with his parents in 1851.  Here, on 8 Feb 1868, William married Margaret Isabella Eales, daughter of the late Mr Eales, at Hawkes Bay.  His father John Maxwell died in 1889 (I assume at NZ).  William John Maxwell died September 27, 1925.  In March 1927, Margaret Maxwell was still living, at Franklin Road, Ponsonby, Auckland. She wrote to my great, great grandmother Mrs. Emily (Emere) Rangitakotokino Beamish (nee Maxwell) on hearing news of the death of Emily's father Andrew Te Rira Maxwell (son of Thomas & Ngeungeu Maxwell) at Mercer, Waikato (NZ) on 7 Feb 1927.  Other details of her letter give good reason to believe that Emily's grandfather Thomas and William's father John may have been close family. I would be glad to find descendants of William and Margaret Maxwell's family in NZ, or perhaps those of William and John's close relations in Edinburgh. Many thanks
