James and Heni Maxwell fostered my maternal grandfather James Alfred Maxwell, whose mum worked with them in the Waipoua and is originally from the area and as far as Pakanae, near Opononi, where she lived. We finally had the unvieling for my great grandfather James Maxwell in 2011. He is buried at the settler cemetary in Te Kopuru, near Dargaville. James and his wife Heeni eventually had two natural daughters after resettling in Panguru, where Heeni's younger sister was the well known figure Whina Cooper and their father Heremia Te Wake the chief of the tribe Ngati Manawa.
