I have received a lineage of my Greers whose descendants married Hammocks/Hammacks which goes back to Sir John Maxwell 4th Lord of Herries.  I have a direct Maxwell in my line through my gggrandmother Melissa Jane Maxwell b. 1826 Sangamon Illinois married James Bell Stephenson in Texas.  She was the daughter of Thomas Maxwell b. 1784 VA and Clarkia Williamson b. 1777/90.  They were married in Green Co. KY 1809. This is on my father's side.  My gggrandmother on my mother's side was Francis Hammack d/o Hope Hull Hammock & Martha McCrary.  The McCrary line goes back to Jane Greer married John McCrary.  Her brother (?) John Greer married Jane McCrary.  This all took place in Laurens Co. SC and the Greers and McCrary's were some of the first settlers in that county.  It is thought they possibly came through PA & VA before moving to SC.  I also have Browns!  Betty Meischen Bellville, Texas
