Alison, I believe the Henry Maxwell you are asking about was my great grandfather. His son, given his fathers name, was my grandfather. The younger Henry emigrated to Australia in 1924. He was followed shortly after by my grandmother, Jessie Gray Dargie. My mother, Mary Dickson Maxwell, was born soon after their arrival. My aunt, Jessie and Henry’s second child, was named Barbara Gowans. My mother passed away this past October and Barbara passed about 10 years ago. There are two surviving siblings, Nita (Jeanette) and Harry. There is a huge gap in our understanding of why Henry left Arbroath. He did not communicate with his family, although his sister Jessie did write to my grandmother. I live in Sydney but right at the moment I am abroad, so I don’t have ready access to dates and census information that I have collected. I will be home about the 4th of January and I would be happy to share the information I do have. Regards, Ian.
