Anyone come across a John Thomas Maxwell b. Abt. 1885 in Dumfries, Scotland to a John Maxwell and Jane Cowan or Cowen? Family lore is he and a brother were brought up by nuns in a childrens home in Kirkcudbright. One brother died but the other survived (John Thomas) and he resurfaces later in 1910 when he married Rosamund Allbright my Great Grandmother. I know I and my mother  have a DNA connection to the McCowens from Old Luce and Stranraer and there is a Jane MCCowen who matches this but cannot find where she came into contact with John Maxwell. She married John Hairstens and had children by him around the time she supposedly birthed the Maxwell boys. It’s a puzzle….there is a chance that one of the Hairstens boys was actually John Thomas and for some reason he changed his name to Maxwell but purely a hypothesis….any help is much appreciated!
