I have some information that may be of use/interest from Griffiths Register (1832 I think). It lists the occupiers of land in Ballygraffin. No mention of Laughlins.  List below is occupiers and immediate lessors:
Anne Keag    Mary I Blakiston Houston
Hugh Matier  Anne Keag
Catherine Clint   Anne Keag
John Little   William Shaw
Edward McCarthy   Anne Keag
Adam Palmer   Mary I Blakiston Houston
Hugh Edmonds    Mary I Blakiston Houston
John Edmonds    Mary I Blakiston Houston
Daniel McGrattan   Mary I Blakiston Houston
William Edmonds   Mary I Blakiston Houston
James Edmond   Mary I Blakiston Houston
Mary Edmonds   Mary I Blakiston Houston
Jane Edmonds   Mary I Blakiston Houston
Bernard McGrattan   Mary I Blakiston Houston
Margaret McGrattan  Bernard McGrattan
Rose Edmonds   Mary I Blakiston Houston
William Maxwell   Mary I Blakiston Houston
George McCaughley   William Maxwell
James Branney   William Maxwell
James Warnock   Mary I Blakiston Houston
Bernard Smith   James Warnock

According to my father the Warnocks and Maxwells were related somewhere along the line - both houses built to the same design, based on a house in county Meath.

The last Maxwell that I remember was Warnock Maxwell who died 20 odd years ago. His sister Hilda died not long after that I think. The farm was sold and bought by Jim Warnock (though he sold the house). Close relationship is indicated in that Jim's father (possibly g-father) was Maxwell Warnock - seem to have used each others surnames as christian names.

Now the list shows only the immediate lessors so the Loughlins could have been a step removed. My father does remember them major landlords. The story is that there was a pub at Rubane and they went every day for a bucket of beer and eventually drank their inheritance.

In my own search I have found that a g-g-uncle (Patt Braniff) married Ellen Lambert of Rubane on 12th Jan 1829 - witnesses were John and Robert Loughlin. This may be the brothers of the above story.

Hope this is of some help. No Loughlins around here now and no Maxwells since Warnock died.

Damien
