In the photograph, the tower was still occupied. The fashionable climbing ivy concealing the earlier modifications. The William Burn extension on the right forms part of the still extant stables and service wing. On the garret head can be seen the original beacon platform which was obscured by the building of the two floors atop the stair tower to the right.
