The Clan Maxwell Pipes and Drums was formed in 1987 by Pipe Major Donald Maxwell and his four sons and comprises of a number of Scottish families in Calgary. The band is one of the largest and best parade pipe bands in Western Canada. On average the band performs in over twenty Civic parades throughout southern Alberta each year and in Canadian Legion, Remembrance Day and Robby Burns Day Celebrations, etc. The group is also active in Highland Games, solo, and Grade 3 band Competitions.

In August, 1995, they traveled to Scotland and competed in the Cowal and Melrose Highland Games. Marched in the "Marie Curie" largest mass pipe band parade in history (comprising of over 3500 pipers and drummers) in Edinburgh. They also played in the Rod Stewart Concert in Calgary.

The Bands members are aged from 13 to 75 and has grown to over 50 members. The Band is a non-profit making organization and provides free instruction and uniforms to those interested in learning the pipes or drums, and perpetuating their Scottish / Canadian heritage. The Band currently wears the Ancient Duncan Tartan but would welcome a sponsor who would kit them out in Maxwell tartan!
