I am interested to know why George Maxwell, 1794< should have a Mackison for a father or indeed have an alternative surname. Surnames are and were regarded as sacra-sanct in Scotland and it is highly unlikely that a Scot would change his name willingly. Also it is probable that a Mackison would be a highlander and Catholic whilst a Maxwell is certainly lowland and most likely Protestant making the change even less likely.
