Dear Maggie, I've just tried to send a message to Jeff Miller (on 28/08/06) but his inbox is full, and I fear he may never get the message but he might come back here, sometime, I suppose and spot this..... we're some kind of cousin- I'm the grand-daughter of James Wardlaw Miller. I think he, like Jeff's grandad, started out in shipping but not as a sailor. A clerk, I think. He died at the age of 92 in Cape Town, in 1969. I'm in England and always have been but I'm struck that the men from this family all left Scotland in the first decade of the 20th Century. What happened to their Mum? Did she wait at home? She was only 18 when my Grandad was born. MY mum was born in South Africa and came to England in the mid fifties. I think this is all irrelevent to you Maggie in your hunt for Wardlaws, but I understand their is a family plot in Portobello Cemetery Edinburgh (never looked for it) If Jeff passes by again it would be nice to make contact as we share Great-grandparents.
