Hi,

To summarize my email to you --

I have Thomas Maxwell of Strabane (born 1640, Sheriff of Co. Tyrone in 1681) as the son of William Maxwell, who was granted Knockroe, Co. Tyrone in 1695.  This is based on pp. 64-65 of Roulston's chapter on the Abercorn Estate.

About William, I suspect that he is either the son of Arthur Maxwell or James Maxwell of Strabane.  I don't have a solid reference for this.

This Arthur is something of a mystery as well, as I've written in my Maxwell World Web post (6-Aug-10).  I'm not sure whether the Arthur that wrote the 1679 letter to his father James is the same Arthur who left the 1720 will.

James was established in Ulster by 1659, as sources have him as "Esq. of Drumbeg" (1659), on the Drumbeg subsidy roll (1663), and entering into a lease agreement with Henry, Earl of Clanbrasil (1671).

Do you know about Thomas's descendants?  I have him with at least one son, William Maxwell (b. 1668, d. c. 1709).  William married Jane Moderwell, and they had at least one daughter, Jane Maxwell, who married Gervais Kennedy.

Entry from Burke that establishes Thomas's son William --

By this marriage, the Kennedy family acquired the lands of Knockroe, co. Tyrone. He d. 1721, aged 36; his wife d. the following year, leaving to the guardianship of her aunt, Mrs. Tomkins, of Prehen, two daus. (Mrs. Skipton and Mrs. Evory) and one son, then aged ten, viz.,
