A good friend of mine has an ancestor - Sidney (sometimes spelled "Sidniah") MAXWELL born ca1770 (according to his youngest dau., Sabrina/Sabra in the 1880 Ashe Co., NC census he was born in Scotland). He died in Ashe Co., NC 13 Sep 1855. All census that lists bp says "NC". He was in Surry Co. NC 1790 census by himself but listed as "Maxfield". He married Catharine ELLSBERRY in Surry Co., NC 27 Sep 1791. She was dau. of John and Sarah ------ ELLSBERRY. They were also in Surry at that time. Catharine says in 1860 Ashe Census she was born in PA. We know the Ellsberry's moved from MD or PA to Surry Co., NC and then to Ashe Co., NC. John Ellsberry died ca1813 in Ashe (no marked tombstone) and seems to have been reasonably wealthy for that time. Back to Sidney MAXWELL, it seems that legend says he left from MD/PA searching a brother that had left home. We don't know anything further abt Sidney/Sidniah/Sidrea MAXWELL than this. He named sons; John and Larkin. Daus: Rebecca and Sabrina/Sabra both married Allen PERKINS. And a dau., Nancy. We are at our wits-end after searching literally for years!
