Title: Kirklands

As far as I know, never!

Kirkland was another of the ascribed 'septs' that the Maxwells never had. The Maxwells are a family and not a clan so never had 'septs' or dependent families.

However, there was a dividing up of the non-associated family names in the end of the 19th century and the Kirklands along with the Kirks were 'given' to the Maxwells.

If you think about it there must have been Kirklands from all over Scotland as there was 'Kirk land', from which the name is derived, in every parish in every corner of Scotland.
