Hi Merv! How are you and yours? As for the Maxwell/Audley/Maxwell 'mess'..it is confusing - but for general clean up: James Maxwell m. Patty Audley (in her line was Pardon Tillinghast and easy to find - check Rhode Island census records) - James and Patty had a son: Audley Maxwell, m. to Hannah Powell - both moved (as did Audley's brothers) to S.C. (I think, don't quote me) for a short time - then to Georgia (Liberty Co/McIntosh Co/Glynn Co). Audley and Hannah had a son..lo and behold..James; who married Ann(e) Way - their dau.Rebecca, m. John Couper. I think it is possible and very likely, that Audley's brothers had sons, etc. they named Audley. In the Midway Georgia cemetery - this is listed: MAXWELL, AUDLEY MAXWELL, CHARLES E. MAXWELL, MRS. ELIZABETH MAXWELL, GEORGIA MAXWELL, JAMES AUDLEY MAXWELL, MRS. MARY MAXWELL, COL. WM. ..as for the James Audley Maxwell - I do not know if this is the James m. to Ann Way or not. But James and Patty Audley's other children - abt. 6 or so- likely had Audley names - as I've found them in VA. and NC. often - however, I am going to stick to my original opinion that the name AUDLEY is coming strictly through the Patty Audley line. James & Patty lived in Pennsylvania for the most part. And Suzanne's information is about as good as it gets. |
