Hi! I realize I’m late to the party here but I hope some of you still check into the site. My great grandfather’s name was Claude Maxwell and he was from Missouri. I asked my Dad if he knew of any names (parents, brothers, etc.) and he didn’t but he believes that Claude left Missouri for Washington State around 1903. Apparently he planned to go for the gold in the Klondike, but decided to stay when he arrived in Seattle. At some point he ended up on the East side of the Cascade Mountains and became a rancher. My grandfather used to tell us stories about Claude rounding up wild horses to ship off on trains and also being in cahoots with the county sheriff delivering whiskey during prohibition. I believe his wife’s name was Jessie but I imagine he met her up here in Washington. I believe he is buried in Ephrata, Washington (Grant County) not far from the range he ranched on. My Dad’s side of the family was never very close so I don’t have much information. Just a few tales here and there from my grandparents over the years. Claude and Missouri stuck out to me when I read this thread. Maybe it’s coincidence, but likely Claude is a family name passed down. It’s my dad’s middle name.
