Dear Anthony, Thank you for this letter on pride of family. I have always been most happy to be a Maxwell but I now find our immigrant ancestor was a user of aliases...probably with family connections to Erskine and Hamilton. I need to find the court record for Thomas Maxwell aka Erskine aka Hamilton who was sentenced in January 1771, reprieved, and transported by bond April 1771 on the ship Thornton, captained by D. MacDougald to Wilmington, NC. Where can I find that ship's list of other immigrants? Thomas turns out to be a solid citizen, acquiring much land, and becomes a judge in Sampson Co.NC. This was my last ditch effort after 35 years of searching many wrong leads. By the way, I am still very proud of his contributions to his family and community. |
