My Great Grandfather is buried in Beechwoods with his wife. His name was William A. Maxwell married to Elizabeth Jane Kearney. When she died at age 21 near the end of the 1800's, my grandfather left his children in the care of his father and went to Alaska for a few years. While my grandfather was born in Lee, MA., his father Thomas Maxwell came from County Donegal, Ireland as did his mother. The family story is that his father came to the US abt 1846 to Phila. He had abt. 12 other brothers and sisters who also came to the US. It may be that we have some connection. When they left Lee, MA, they settled in Jefferson Co., PA on a farm that I believe was called "Round Top Farm". My Aunt believes that her grandfather's only other brother Thomas moved from Jefferson County as a widower. His wife's name was Rosie. According to my they never had any children of their own. One name that keeps appearing with the Maxwells of my family in Lee and then again in Jefferson County is "Alexander Maxwell". I have some mystery photos that I think are William Maxwell and his brother (Thomas). I am guessing the one photo is my great grandfather because he is sporting a rather bushy mustache that in a picture that I know to be him appears to be the same. There is another photo of a woman that someone wrote Mrs. Billie Maxwell on the back and I assume that is my great grandmother. My grandmother's name was Margaret E.(Emma) Maxwell who married John David Scott. |
