Dear William & Kay My Greatgrandfather John Maxwell( B. 1840) lived in Ardstraw, Tyrone with his family ( father,James- mother Margaret).He migrated in 1863 to Sydney Australia via Plymouth on the Sirocco arriving on 28th January 1864. On 10th June 1864 John Maxwell deposited 4 pounds towads the fare of Mary Jane Watson of Newtonstewart(in the parish of Ardstraw). She arrived in Sydney also via Plymouth on The Hornet on 25th January 1865. My father,Aubrey, was the youngest of 9 children,who grew up in the Maitland area of NSW. His brother Joseph was a 1st WW hero- VC MC and Bar, DCM.My father was a lawyer. There may be connections somewhere. Regards, Donald Maxwell Bronte, NSW Australia |
