Samuel Hart Maxwell was one of the 17 children of Thomas and Margaret Hyslop, he was my great grandfather . Sam and Jane Campbell Brodie Henderson who came down with her parents and sister Leila from Dalkieth in Fife to run the Kings Arms in Dalbeattie, they had Margaret Helen Maxwell my grandmother, Bessie, Jean (who became a Wallach and lived in Dalbeattie all her life as did Bessie.Jeans unmarried daughter, Majorie still lives in Dalbeatti. Thomas (who fell off a horse and died ) and Robert. My granny much loved by me also told me much about her family and left me some history of the family I only wish I had listened more as a child . About 3 years ago I also went to Twynholm and Dalbeatti to see her home They lived in the Star Hotel in Twynholm and I felt so close to her and could imagine her driving the car they had, there is a photo in the Star Hotel of her at the wheel with her family still today. She told me she knew the other uncles and aunts well.Cordelia was her favourite. She listed them as follows : Mary, Maggie, Jessie Annie,(your grandmother) Alec, Thomas, George,William (onstone) dont know what that means + Samuel her father. She said 17 of family and grandfather founded a big butchers shop, left plenty of money, ship shares and much property in Dalbeatti.I have a list of his children who died if you need it.
